Los Angeles Dog Photography | Douglas Park, Santa Monica

I've recently moved across town, so I thought it was time to start exploring some parks in my new area. Douglas Park is the closest traditional park to my new place, so Maurice and I decided to check it out. The park itself is not very big, but it does have some interesting features.

The most notable element of this park is it's large duck pond, connected to a smaller pond by a winding stream. Flat and peaked wooden bridges crisscross the stream and lead out to an island in the middle of the big duck pond. These wooden bridges are great rustic accents for dog photography sessions. I loved posing Maurice on all the different bridges! This area, however, may not be an ideal photography session location for dogs who are distracted by birds (ducks, pigeons, seagulls) or water.

The park also has significant tree cover, creating beautifully dappled light throughout the late afternoon. Between stairs, benches, and rocks, I found unique places to pose Maurice and take advantage of the soft, warm light filtering through the trees. For a lifestyle dog photography session, being able to incorporate settings with direct sunlight and shade creates more interesting, dynamic images.

Douglas Park is a fun park for a dog photography session with a varied amount of settings in a small, middle-of-the-city park. However, it can provide a number of distractions for some dogs due to the moderate amount of wildlife and park-goers. I'm excited to come back to this Santa Monica park soon!

Los Angeles Dog Photographer | Kenneth Hahn, Los Angeles

Despite this gloomy month, Maurice and I decided to try exploring Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. What's interesting to me about Kenneth Hahn is how large of a park it is in the middle of the city. We trekked around for a couple hours, and I'm sure there are still plenty of areas we didn't cover.

In the lower park of the park, there is a beautiful stream crossed with wooden bridges. At the top, there is a pond with a waterfall that feeds the stream down into the large lake below. I loved the the textures of the rock-lined pond and weathered, wooden bridges in my dog portraits.

Moving a bit further up the park, I found a meadow tucked away on the edge of the park. Due to the recent rains, the area was teeming with new grasses and flowers. The soft foliage framing my photos was a lovely contrast to the harsher backgrounds I used earlier in my dog photography session.

At the top of the park, there are views of sprawling Los Angeles in a more savannah-like environment. A few trees punctuate the scrub-covered, sandy hills. I really liked the tonality of the photos of Maurice in this location because the warmer, earthy tones complemented his fur.

Overall, Kenneth Hahn is a great, centrally-located place for a dog photography session. The variety of locations in one easily accessible place makes it a versatile location for all different types of dogs. I'm looking forward to doing some lifestyle dog photography sessions here this spring!

Los Angeles Dog Photographer | Veterans Parkway, Manhattan Beach

This year, I am challenging myself to find new, unique locations across Los Angeles to explore with my clients. Who better than my own Corgi Maurice to accompany me on these adventures? First up is Veterans Parkway in Manhattan Beach.

Veterans Parkway is a 1.5 mile trail and 21-acre park that crosses the city. It's also the only park in Manhattan Beach that allows leashed dogs. The park is frequented by joggers, bikers, and dog walkers who enjoy the beautiful scenery and easy trail access across the city.

I loved the variability of the setting in such a small area. There is grass and trees, wood chips and tree stumps, ivy and bridges, wood stairs and brass sculptures. It's a dog photographers dream right in the middle of the city! I really enjoyed incorporating all of the different elements into a lifestyle dog photography session full of unique and beautiful images.

New Year, New Products, New Prices!

Happy New Year! At the beginning of every year, many of us make changes in our personal lives to improve ourselves in the upcoming year. This year, I've decided to make some substantial changes to Fetch Photography's offerings from session types to products to pricing. Here's a breakdown on the changes:

I've simplified my session offerings to make it even easier to book the perfect pet photography session!

Special Occasion Pet Photography Session ($195)
Special occasion sessions are great for holiday cards, announcements, or other special moments when you only need a few, beautiful images. These pet photography sessions include a 30-minute session at one location with one pet and up to two humans; five digital images (printable up to 8" x 10") are included.

Lifestyle Pet Photography Session ($295)
Lifestyle pet photography sessions are full sessions intended to capture your pet's unique personality and special bond with you in a meaningful location. These pet photography sessions include a 60-minute session at one location with up to two pets and two humans; fifteen digital images (printable up to 8" x 10") are included.

Both types of sessions include my signature pet photography session experience:

  • a personalized, pre-session consultation with me to plan the perfect session for your pet
  • a pet photography session held outdoors in the beautiful natural light of your chosen location or indoors at your home
  • my undivided time and talent to create authentic, natural images
  • an online gallery to view, share, and download your final images

To avoid a one size fits all model, I have a variety of add-ons for sessions that allow you to configure your experience exactly how you want it. For example, you can add multiple locations or more people/pets.

If you had something different in mind for a session, I'm always willing to collaborate! Send me an email to get started.

Los Angeles Dog Photographer | Shin Family Christmas Photos

I've always loved the holiday season, but even more so as a photographer. It's such a fun time to capture families enjoying their time together. Cute sweaters, twinkly lights, and sparkly ornaments make this time of year a photographer's dream!

When Fernanda asked me to do a special occasion photography session with her family for their annual holiday cards, I was so excited to capture her adorable family. I've photographed her Bichon Frise, George, before, so I loved the idea of doing a whole family session.

Everyone wore matching pajamas—even George!—and posed like pros in front of their beautiful Christmas tree. In no time at all, we had tons of adorable (and for some, hilarious) family photos for their Christmas card collage. Thank you so much for inviting me into your beautiful home and allowing me to capture your adorable family!

What could be better than enjoying the holiday season doing what you love with those you love? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
